What PeopleForBikes Is Doing for You

A message from Jenn Dice + the PeopleForBikes Team
PeopleForBikes was founded by leading bike industry brands who put competition aside to collectively grow bicycling and strengthen the bike business. Since then, our organization has helped leverage more than $60 billion for better bike infrastructure nationwide, saved hundreds of millions in tariffs and unfair taxes, expanded e-bike opportunities by every measure, and stemmed over-reaching government regulations. We work to protect your business and get more people on bikes more often.
In 2025, we defeated harmful bills that would have banned electric bicycles from trail systems and public lands; mandated insurance, registration, or licensing for e-bike riders; and imposed costly, unnecessary battery labeling requirements for manufacturers. Our years-long campaign to reform de minimis came to fruition, and we also supported funding for vital bike projects through initiatives like our VoteForBikes campaign, which has already generated more than $191 million in new public dollars for bikes this year, championed legislation to expand domestic manufacturing, and drove measurable progress in making hundreds of communities better for biking through our City Ratings program.
Here are the top actions we are taking to support your business in today’s tough environment:

Good data fuels good business decisions. That’s why we continue to invest in the industry-leading market intelligence. From exclusive sell-through reports to future sales forecasts to participation insights, our members-only resources give you the tools to understand the market, anticipate trends, and strengthen your business. Explore our Business Intelligence Hub for more.

As your industry trade association, we work every day to advocate for tariff relief and help our members navigate the complex and evolving trade landscape. Our tariff resource hub breaks down what’s happening, why it matters, and how PeopleForBikes is leading the charge to protect the bike industry and your business.

Amid shifting political priorities, we are working to make domestic manufacturing and assembly more economically viable for U.S. bike businesses. We championed the recently introduced U.S. Bicycle Production and Assembly Act, a bipartisan bill paving the way for more bikes to be built here in America. Few other industries are taking this proactive stance and we welcome more bike industry members to get involved.

Thanks to our relentless advocacy efforts, bipartisan legislation was signed into law on July 8 to eliminate the de minimis tariff loophole, the tax-free import of packages valued at less than $800 that undercut U.S. manufacturers and retailers and allowed untested, unsafe products to reach American consumers.

When people ride more, they buy more. Our 2025 City Ratings show real progress — 234 U.S. cities now score 50 or higher (a tipping point) for bikeability, up from just 33 in 2019. Communities investing in connected bike networks are seeing more people ride, with major cities making double-digit score improvements in just a few years. From Saint Paul, MN (up from 9 in 2020 to 62 in 2025) to Brooklyn, NY (improving from 60 in 2020 to 73 in 2025), these success stories prove that infrastructure drives participation. We’re already engaging with Congress on the reauthorization of federal funding for America’s surface transportation system, a major, five-year bill that represents nearly all of federal dollars for bike infrastructure nationwide. This isn’t just policy wonk; this bill translates into thousands of bike projects, singletrack trails, trailheads and more. Without this backbone of support, your riders, retailers and customer base erode. One thing we know for sure is that without defending and advocating for safe and fun places to ride, participation declines.
Every one of these wins is made possible thanks to your membership, engagement, and support. We can’t do it without our 340 dues-paying members and together, we co-create a bright future for all of bicycling and the bike business. Thank you and let’s keep working together to strengthen the bicycle industry and make the U.S. the best place in the world to ride a bike.
Sincerely,
Jenn Dice + PFB Team
