Bicycles and E-Bikes Left Off China Tariff Relief List

Following an official state visit to Washington, D.C., by President Xi Jinping of China, the U.S.-China Board of Trade released a list of products imported from China recommended for consideration for future tariff relief. Bicycles, e-bikes, and bicycle parts are not on the list.
Last week, the U.S. hosted President Xi Jinping of China for an official state visit in Washington, D.C. The visit resulted in several trade-related updates. Most notably, the administration released the results of the U.S.-China Board of Trade review on September 27, including a list of products imported from China recommended for consideration for future tariff relief. Bicycles, e-bikes, and bicycle parts are not on the list.
The U.S.-China Board of Trade is a forum created in 2026 to manage trade issues between the two countries. In June 2026, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) requested comments to help the board identify non-sensitive products fit for potential tariff modifications. PeopleForBikes submitted a comment recommending bicycles, e-bikes, and bicycle parts for relief.
The administration published the results of the review on September 27, including a list of Chinese products and a list of American products recommended for future tariff relief. The lists are mutually agreed upon, each totaling about $30 billion. The U.S. list names 77 tariff lines of Chinese products recommended for reduced tariffs. The list does not include the tariff codes for bicycles (HTS 8712), e-bikes (HTS 8711), or bicycle parts and accessories (HTS 8714). It focuses on low-value consumer goods such as fireworks, Christmas ornaments, small household appliances and products, and children’s toys.
One line may matter to some PeopleForBikes members: HTS 9503.00.00 covers tricycles, scooters, and similar wheeled toys. Items with radio frequency, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Bluetooth connectivity are excluded.
