In 2024, PeopleForBikes' VoteForBikes campaign tracked and supported a historic amount of funding on pro-bike ballot measures across the country with voters approving $27.4 billion for better biking. In 2025, states and municipalities across the country will continue to vote on measures that invest in expanding bicycle infrastructure and improving the quality and accessibility of places to ride bikes. If you love bikes, use our resources and make a plan to vote!

*Dollar amounts below may not reflect the full bond value or projected revenue of a measure, since we try to identify the portions of a measure most directly relevant for safe and accessible biking.

PeopleForBikes recognizes the important work of the Trust for Public Land in compiling their LandVote Database of relevant ballot measures for preserving natural areas, helping alert us to several of the measures below that are relevant for biking.

Alaska

City of Anchorage — Propositions 2 & 3 — $11,550,000 total over 20 years — April 1 — PASSED!

If approved, Proposition 2, the Roads and Storm Drainage Bond, would provide $3,300,000 million to fund bike and pedestrian safety upgrades on roads across Anchorage. This funding will improve safety for all road users and promote increased active transportation opportunities.

If approved, Proposition 3, the Parks and Recreation Service Area Capital Improvement Bond, would provide $8,250,000 in funding for 17 improvement projects to parks and trails. This funding will keep outdoor recreation opportunities safe, accessible, and available.

There are also other propositions on this ballot that, if approved, would provide funding to projects that increase access to bike riding, such as improving parking at a popular trailhead (Proposition 9) or improved snow removal on sidewalks (Proposition 10).

Colorado

City of Durango — Ballot Issue 2A — $180,000,000 total over 30 years — April 1 — PASSED!

If approved, Ballot Issue 2A would renew the half-cent sales tax, first approved by voters in 2005, at the same rate until December 2056. This will generate approximately $6,000,000 annually with half of revenue allocated to open space acquisition, parks, and trail development and maintenance in accordance with the Parks, Open Space, Trail & Recreation Master Plan. This will continue Durango's world-class investment in infrastructure that facilitates more opportunities to get outside and ride a bike.

Texas

City of Plano — Proposition G — $40,795,000 total over 40 years — May 3

If approved, and as part of the largest bond referndum in city history, Proposition G will fund open space land acquisition and development of the city's recreational trail system in accordance with the Parks, Recreation, Trails & Open Space Master Plan and Bicycle Transportation Map to increase opportunitites to ride a bike around Plano.

Washington

City of Tacoma — Proposition 1 — $250,000,000 total over 10 years — April 22 — FAILED

If approved, this Proposition 1 would renew the Tacoma Streets Initiative, first approved by voters in 2015, until 2035 and will generate $25 million annually to fund street repair, including safety upgrades and projects identified in the Vision Zero Action Plan, as well as expansion of the city's greenway network. This will improve road safety for all road users, reduce traffic injuries and fatalities, and increase safer opportunities to ride a bike.
