Position Summary
PeopleForBikes is hiring a Senior Accountant. The selected candidate will manage general accounting and financial processes of both the PeopleForBikes Coalition and PeopleForBikes Foundation as well as assist in data integration and cleaning of our CRM database. This employee will be responsible for all daily accounting tasks and carry out relevant administrative duties. Ultimately, they will ensure the company’s finances and data integration processes run smoothly. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update accurate accounting records and files for both the PeopleForBikes Coalition and PeopleForBikes Foundation, including general bookkeeping tasks.
- Oversee expense report management of our 30+ person staff.
- Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledgers.
- Maintain relationships with key vendors and engage them to research discrepancies as needed.
- Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare documents for the annual external audit.
- Research and apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Work to improve financial processes.
- Human resource administration role shared with other staff for seamless onboarding processes that align with accounting functions.
- Some filing as needed.
- Assist with other key accounting functions as needed.
- Assist with data administration in Salesforce.
- Provide backup for office administration when needed.
- Assist DEI Committee and Sustainability Committee with financial audits.
- Minimum travel required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

- At least five years of experience in accounting with nonprofits.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and accounting, spreadsheet, database, CRM (Salesforce experience a plus), and Microsoft Suite software experience.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks accounting software.
- Exceptional attention to detail with proven math and organizational skills.
- Takes initiative and action and gets work done quickly.
- Strong customer service ethic and willingness to go above and beyond to help PeopleForBikes’ stakeholders.
- Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion.
- Ability to collaborate and work efficiently with multiple stakeholders and teams.
- Strong work ethic, self-directed, able to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks and meet critical deadlines.
- Willingness to perform moderate travel to attend meetings, conferences, trainings, and site visits.
- A commitment to safe, healthy, reliable, and affordable access to bicycling for all members of a community.
- PeopleForBikes will consider alternative ways that an applicant may have gained the required qualifications, outside of traditional pathways.
- Our office is ADA accessible. This role will require the use of a laptop for several hours and the ability to lift and move packages.
Compensation and Benefits
This “at-will” position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience from $65,000 - $80,000. The final salary will be adjusted and even possibly increased based on the education and experience of the candidate. Location
PeopleForBikes is based in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. As Boulder is part of the Denver metro area, we require the candidate to be located in the Denver metro area and be in the office about 1-2 days per week depending on office needs.
