The Accident prone, Adventurous rider.
My mom used to ride me around the city of Providence, on her ten speed in the 70s. Then on my birthday, Grampa Russell bought me my first bike, a Murray Street Machine w/ training wheels, when I was a lil' kid, it was very popular & way cool! I spent most of those following weekends with Grampa out on the street trying to ride it, as he'd gradually raise those training wheels. He was so patient! And eventually I was off racing w/ the neighborhood kids, dropping my bike & having to sit in the bathroom sink, while he'd tweeze the gravel out from my knees. It didn't stop me from racing them again the next day, and yes, I biffed it again, this time gravel imbedded into my palms. Lesson learned: DON'T RIDE THE GRAVELY SHOULDER! Also popping wheels w/ your friends will make an 8yr. old girl, learn real quick, that bikes w/ higher top tubes, F'n hurt! Oh yeah, riding unwrapped Hi-Rise bars on a hot day is just a no-no! LIVE & LEARN.
Fast forward to the past 11years my ex-boyfriend bought me a Giant Cypress for our first Holiday together. He loved his fix gear & was hoping I'd graduate to one asap! I love that cruiser, we'd ride together once in awhile but I couldn't keep up w/ him. My buddy Ig & I would ride @ the same speed, so we'd meet up & cruise around SF and grab a few beers. I even dragged that baby to Burningman, a few times! She's my beater now, only ride her to work on raining days, which is so dangerous when it's coming down in sheets, we've flipped & crashed way to many times on foggy Bay Area pot holed Streets…got a concussion a year ago going over an overpass, that had some Cherry Tree droppings, was in a hurry; late for an Art class, I hit my head on the guardrail! I've since named that cruiser Christine. And bought myself another Giant Escape w/ a kick-ass trailer to haul my stuff around. I LOVE IT!
Now @ 36 yrs.old, I've never bothered to get a driver's license…don't believe I ever will!
SAFETY 1st, KIDS & HAPPY RIDING!!!
