The first was the most thrilling

The first was the most thrilling

My love of bikes began on a chilly December morning in 1965 when I received my first bike as a birthday present on my sixth birthday.  My recollection was it was a stingray with a banana seat and motorcycle handlebars; however, this picture of my older brother teaching me to ride that December day trumps my memory.  The banana seat must have come later.  This bike got passed on to other neighborhood kids as I inherited my brothers castoff bikes until my first ten speed (orange, Mercier) arrived  for 8th grade graduation.  There have been many bikes since, but the first was the most thrilling.
