Rather Be Riding
Grew up in Chicago where as a kid, a bike was my ticket to freedom. You could get just about anywhere fast and easy on a bike. Though I participated in baseball, football, hockey, track & field, cross country…..my parents NEVER had to drive me anywhere. This created tremendous freedom…for me & my parents.
When chronic injuries made it difficult to run in my late 20's, I turned once again to the bike. Mountain biking was just coming into its own in Spokane & Northern Idaho in the late 80's and I was intrigued. I traded in running shoes for wheels and never looked back. On a bike, I could ride & adventure for HOURS will no ill effects on my body. Riding turned to racing on trails & roads with groups of fun healthy people.
Several years ago, my wife and I built a new home on the Greenbelt in Boise. Both of us love being on a bike so we began bike commuting everywhere year round. We now share one small fuel efficient vehicle with the three members of our household and use it primarily for Costco runs and getting to the ski hill once per week. We have found bike commuting to be the BEST way to get around. We avoid traffic, parking hassles and high fuel bills and burn up to 1000 calories per day just getting around during an hour or so on the road.
