Tricia Chicka - Pittsburgh, PA
I don't remember my first bike, but ""Old Blue"" certainly changed my adult life. It was a Novara Piedra mountain bike that I used as my first commuter (outfitted with a rack and slick tires) in 2007. She's pictured here on a group ride in Pittsburgh in 2008. When the brakes broke and I got a new hybrid commuter, I stupidly left Old Blue out in the weather. When I got around to trying to fix her up, the LBS told me that it wasn't really worth fixing to use as a mountain bike. :( I gave her to the shop to convert into a beater bike.
But that bike started what will be for me a lifetime of bicycle commuting and other bike adventures. I learned a lot about the do's and don't's and the in betweens of cycling and bike maintenance. And now that I have a new mountain bike that so happens to also be blue in color (and will actually use as a mountain bike!), I decided to name him Blue in honor of my first adult bike.blog comments powered by Disqus
