My first real (aka not a Barbie) bike
Shelley Alingas - Oakland, CA
My first (real aka not a Barbie bike) bike is still my bike today. I got her (yes her) when I was 22 years old. I found her on Craigslist Santa Cruz while in DC and begged my best friend to make the transaction so I could have her. Orange, circa 70s Peugeot commuter bike. I was in love. I even flew to California so I could bring her back with me. Gave her a full tune and next thing you know I started riding her to work through the historic city of DC. She got me to many special places: evening picnics with jazz in the garden, scenic tours of the National Mall, nice rides along the Potomac River and many visits to Mr. Lincoln. I loved her so much that I couldn't let her go. I broke her down and shipped her back with me to the Bay Area where I have her now and ride her during my commute to work. I think she'll be my first and last bike.
