I Ride, Because I Can
Years ago, I nearly lost both of my legs in an automobile accident. Although I drive the family car on occasion—grocery shopping expeditions, and the like—my bicycles are my major means of transportation when I'm out and about here in New York City.
My "go-to" ride is my DAHON Mariner folding bike. It is an absolutely ideal means of transportation here in the Big Apple. I don't need a bicycle lock ... I just fold it up carry it with me.
When folded, my DAHON is an "always available" seat in a crowded subway car, if I have to take the subway. And it has just enough gearing to make getting around town an easy task for an old codger like me.
I've also been the proud owner of a Cannondale SM 600 for decades. Compared to my DAHON, it's like driving a luxury car with all the options. I usually use my Cannondale for longer trips.
Depending on weather conditions, I usually ride my bikes six days a week (our family car belongs to my lovely wife).
As mentioned above, I nearly lost my legs. I ride my bikes, because I can. I'm truly grateful that I can.
Mostly, though, I ride my bikes, because I love riding my bikes.
