I Saved All My Babysitting Money to Buy That First Bike

My first real bike was a Nishiki that I purchased in 1985. I saved all my babysitting money: about $500 to purchase it. My brother, Shane Cooper, was a bike shop manager. He got me ready to roll with my sisters and took us for rides. It eventually went on to my younger sister who raced and is still a cyclist today. And, Shane, well he went on to make the best cycling socks in the world by founding Defeet. That bike, still hanging in the garage.
