Fighting Chronic Illness by Cycling!
Michael Reinert - Philadelphia, PA
In early 2014, I started to get blind spells with intense pain in and around my temples every 3 days that lasted for the entire year of 2014! I was suffering and bad! I was scared. I didn't know what was going on, brain cancer, a brain tumor, I just didn't know. So I saw a neurologist, and started doing immense amounts of research. The neurologist turned me into a pill. After all, you know what they say; "You are what you eat". Nothing worked! However after finding some scholarly literature, a research study which was performed on rats which turned out to be extremely useful. Without getting into too much detail, the conclusion of this study was that the exercise-only group of rats which were tested, had a significantly reduced cortical spreading depolarization velocity as to those which have not exercised. So despite my throbbing temples, I jumped on the bike and rode for 20 miles. I was shocked to find out that in the days proceeding my bike ride, I didn't suffer one single migraine! This has now lasted for 4 months. I accredit the frequency reduction of migraines solely to cycling! Because nothing is better than low impact or no impact exercise, especially when you're in pain, or aren't feeling well!blog comments powered by Disqus
