Biking 100+Miles to Ride Away the Loneliness

When I think of my first bike I think of my first adult bike, which was a ca. 1972 Raleigh Super Course I bought used in 1975.  I had heard about Bikecentennial, and really wanted to do it.  Alas, my parents nixed the idea and I had to settle for 3- and 4-day tours around New England where I lived.  My picture is from a few days before I graduated high school in 1978.  I went to a boarding school, and the day after I graduated I planned to take two days to ride home.  I am prepping the bike.  But in the end I wound up being so depressed about friends I probably would never see again that I did the whole trip -- well over 100 miles -- in one day so as not to spend the night alone.  My first century, when the term century wasn't even in the language as far as I know.  The bike was stolen my sophomore year of college, but I still keep an eye open for a 25" root beer brown Super Course.  Because hope springs eternal.
