Bike Haiku!
I live in NYC and commute by bike 24 miles round trip to work. I try to ride year round and find that the winter is often most enjoyable (I don’t sweat as much and the bike paths are less crowded!). Riding in such a big city where the chaos and danger of bad drivers and careless pedestrians is sometimes unavoidable can be frustrating at times. To help me stay relaxed and to pass the time (it takes me an hour each way), I started composing bike haikus about things encountered during my rides and pairing them with photographs that I had taken. It is a fun, and hopefully amusing, way to share some of my experiences with others and to take my mind off of the challenges of navigating city streets! My latest haiku (#42) sums up why I love biking:
Haiku #42:
Fresh air, freedom, fun;
Fatter wallet, thinner me,
This is why I ride!
