A no-win situation

A no-win situation

I once cared for a patient who had been a physical therapist & rode a bike.  He was riding around 5 AM.  He was hit by a college student who recognizing the signs & symptoms of too much drink, spent the night at a friend's house.  Unfortunately, insufficient time had transpired from the last drink to resumption of the wheel.  He struck my patient, forever changing the physical therapist's life.  "Sandy" lost: his marriage & custody of his children,  livelihood,  home &  independence.  Sandy lives at home with his elderly mother who tenderly cares for him every day.  Sandy's health is now precarious as he is often in & out of the hospital.  To his credit, the college student did not leave Sandy stranded.  He called for help & stayed by Sandy's side.  It is a no win situation.
