Tim Blumenthal, President
Tim Blumenthal is president of PeopleForBikes, the nation’s leading bike advocacy organization making better bike riding for everyone. He has led this growing nonprofit since September 2004. (It began in 1999 under the name Bikes Belong.)
Tim previously served 11 years as the executive director of the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Under his leadership, IMBA grew into the world’s largest mountain bike advocacy group.
He began his cycling work as a journalist, serving as an editor for VeloNews from 1980-84. He later became the managing editor of Mountain Bike Magazine and the racing editor of Bicycling Magazine. He was a top editor/writer at Rodale Press for a decade.
Tim has been a TV commentator for more than 35 ESPN and OLN/Versus mountain bike programs. He served as the scriptwriter and consultant for the U.S. network TV cycling coverage of seven Summer Olympic Games (Los Angeles, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing). Blumenthal was elected to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2001.
Tim currently serves on the UCI Advocacy Commission, which focuses on connecting pro races and pro race teams with the effort to make bicycling better for everyone. He is also a member of the international steering board of the World Cycling Alliance.
