Uniting a million voices to improve the future of biking

Who we are:

Peopleforbikes.org is dedicated to improving the future of bicycling in America. We believe that by gathering a million names of support we can speak with one, powerful voice to make bicycling safer, more convenient and appealing for everyone.

Peopleforbikes.org is an initiative of Bikes Belong, the national group of bicycle suppliers and retailers working to put more people on bicycles more often. It is administered by the Bikes Belong Foundation, our 501c3 non-profit charitable organization.

Why we exist:

Bicycling is great for health, good for communities, and a solution to many of our most pressing societal and environmental problems. Although millions of Americans recognize these benefits and love to ride their bikes, only a fraction of those who ride have stood up to help improve bicycling in America. To bridge this gap and make our country a better place for all who ride, peopleforbikes.org is uniting one million voices for bicycling to help build a national movement with clout and influence.

Our goal:

The goal of peopleforbikes.org is to gather one million names of support to make our leaders and public more aware of the community benefits of bicycling. Peopleforbikes.org will also activate bicycling supporters during key policy-making periods.

Let our voices be heard. Every five or six years, the federal government allocates billions of dollars to maintain and improve our country’s transportation infrastructure. Peopleforbikes.org will use our powerful, united voice to urge U.S Senators and Representatives to make smart investments in bicycling facilities and programs that will benefit us now and well into the future. Learn more about the federal investment in bicycling.

One for all. By uniting bike supporters of all types – from commuters and mountain bikers, to casual riders and road bikers – we aim to build a national movement to improve bicycling in the U.S. We intend to make a statement through our numbers and by describing how bicycling is a cost-effective solution to major societal challenges. We will raise public awareness and demonstrate our passion to our leaders in Congress and in cities and states throughout the country.
